Being on Fire, All of the Time

Admit it. From reading the title of this post, you think this is a diatribe about menopause, don’t you? I would. I mean, yeah, everyone who is in female body this time around goes through it. Most of my readers are female. And, many of you know that I’m knee-deep in the “change” and physically hot much of the time. But, no. This post is not about menopause. I’ll spare you that particular madness today. LOL!

No, this is a post about living wide open, living on fire. It’s about allowing our bodies to channel energy, consciousness, feeling, thought, and experience in a greater capacity; it’s about accepting that we are conduits for spirit and aligning ourselves with that primary thought. It’s about how to lay down the barricades, let experiences live inside of us, pull deeper meaning from the tissues of the body, grow from the exercises, and contribute a more authentic part of the self to all that is. In short, this post is imploring you (and me) to turn “on”. I want us to walk forward in life, gilded by the fire of self-awareness, knowing that we are never alone, never abandoned, never truly damaged by anything, not even death.

Ambitious, I know. Not sure I can do this topic total justice, but you know me: I’ve got lots of words and I’m going to use them. I’ll do my best and am counting on you to tell me if I fall short.

oneFirst rule of being on fire all of the time: Accept that everything you feel is good, right, makes sense, and has a place. Everything we feel is right. Are you feeling so angry that you could kill someone today? It’s okay. That feeling is right. You have every right to feel that way. Those are not “bad” feelings. They are just feelings. Feel your feelings. Know that your emotions are always there for a reason. You aren’t making this shit up. Some people suck. Some people are cruel to us. Some people, in the expression of their own harm, offer harm to us (that we then decide to pick up, let in, and work with). Your feelings about anything going on in your life are always right, true, good, and useful to you.

It’s what we do with the feelings that counts. It’s about digging out, from deep inside of us, what the feelings mean, and their origins. So, how do we accept that our feelings are always right? We think about them. We observe when we are having them. We identify them. For example, “Oh, this is anger. I’m angry. Why am I angry about this? What’s below this anger? What’s the message that I’m taking from this person’s behavior? What are my thoughts associated with this episode of anger?”

We can then seek to dialog with the feelings and trace them back down into the depths, into the core places, to the beginning. Why am I angry? Pause. Let the question float into your body. Feel it there. Find the spot where it lives in your body. Your epiphany will come. “Ah, I see now. This person’s behavior triggered some thoughts in me that go all the way back to childhood about feeling less than okay in my family. Ah. I see. This person’s behavior is a message that I maintain about not being good enough. Okay. I get it now. These feelings are valid and merely indicating a part of me that I’m animating in this moment. I want to dig into this more. I want relief from this and I want to take responsibility, so I’m going in…deeper…”

This practice of accepting feelings takes some people an entire incarnation (or more). Just this one step. But, if you can get to the place of largely accepting that your feelings are right and a result of your thoughts, your core beliefs, you are living on fire. You are living a more healthy life. It’s a simple-sounding thing to do. But, it takes real work. It takes astuteness. It takes being awake and being present. It takes a willingness to be responsible. Your feelings and thoughts are your responsibility. You created them. If you can also accept your emotions, you are ahead of the game. Now, go forth and own how you feel, invite your feelings in, hold them, understand them, ask questions of them, get to the source of why you react the way that you do, know that your emotions will shift when you are ready, and thank your feelings for telling you about the thing that you wanted to explore. If you do this one thing, you’ll see your life open up in miraculous ways.

Second rule of being on fire all of the time: Accept that there is more going on in your life than what you can physically see. The physical manifestations of energy, what we physically see in the world, are varied, rich, and infinite, but they are only half of the picture. There are truly countless things happening below the level of our perceptions, in what I call the soul-level consciousness, that directly impact how we move through and create this world.

I love the Pierre Teilhard de Chardin quote that says: “We are not physical beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a physical experience.” Yes. Like it or not. Believe it or not. We are spirit in physical form. We come back here to earth for a core reason that is often only known to us in our souls. Some people can get right in there and find out what that core reason for their being is and then move on it. While, others struggle to understand it or grasp it and may never know. But, it changes nothing. What we see is not all there is, regardless of what “ology” or “ism” or “non-belief” you might entertain in this lifetime.

How can you sense this? Close your eyes. Call in one of your spirit guides (whether you believe in them or not). Ask your guide to give you a sensation in your hand or leg. Wait for it. If you train yourself, you will be able to feel them show up. You will feel something. Still not convinced? Walk into your room angry and see how your dog or cat reacts to you. Watch the energy emanating from your physical body in the reactions of others. THIS IS WHAT’S REAL. You are sensing the invisible realm that is at the core of all life, the spirit, the Source of all that is, the impetus for all things, and it is each of us. We are extensions of Source energy in physical bodies.

You will finally understand that true life is what’s going on in the invisible realms and it includes the physical stuff, but the physical is just a result of the invisible, the consciousness called you. Physical manifestations: bodies, cars, books, trees, mountains, etc. are all coalesced by your consciousness, my consciousness, not the other way around. We create matter. Plain and simple. We do. These things do not exist at all without our consciousness directing them, shaping them, molding the molecules. And, humanity is getting very close to proving this.

threeThird rule of being on fire all of the time: Accept that your body is your fastest and biggest ally in growing your consciousness. You cannot get what you came here to do done without your physical body. You cannot live without your body. Your lovely body is how your spirit advances. It’s how you get what you came to manifest manifested. Your body is vital to your growth as a consciousness, a soul; it’s necessary, right, and good. Your body is the quickest messenger and “manifester” of your thought and feelings. Your body is your first and closest barometer for the direction of your thoughts. Plain and simple. If you’re sick, that means you are resisting something. What? Find out.

If you can get to the point where you can accept that your body, right or wrong, sick or well, fat or thin, is your chance to expand as a soul, you’ll be living on fire; you’ll be living a more authentic experience. The fact is, our bodies are giving us lessons that we chose to work on before we even got here. Don’t blame your body for the lessons that you chose to come in and work on; it’s not your body’s fault that you are unwell. Your body made an agreement to work with you and you need it, so love it. Your body (like everything you experience) follows your thoughts, every time, without exception. The more compassion and love you can show your body, the faster you will expand, the quicker you will heal, the faster you will get your lessons done, and the richer your experiences will be.

So. Let’s make a vow to live on fire all of the time. Let’s make a decision today to let life pull through us and accept the permutations of experience that we draw to ourselves for the purpose of expanding. Let’s know, at our core, that what we feel is right, that we can act from feelings without consciousness or we can act from feelings with great precision and reflection. Both work, but one brings us greater gifts. We can decide to accept our feelings, accept the unseen help and support that is all around us, and accept that our bodies are a very vital part of this journey. And, finally, we can use the fire that we generate to eliminate what no longer serves mankind: self-recrimination, fear, hatred, judgement, lack of responsibility, and so on.

I don’t know about you, but I’m burning. My office is now filling up with the sweetest smoke. 🙂

Life without a Uterus

Many of us have lost various parts due to disease, injury, or less-than-healthy conditions. It’s a sad fact that we humans spend years ruining our bodies. No matter how healthy our behaviors or how much we run each week (not me, mind you), stuff still breaks or dies or changes. We accept this gradual (and sometimes immediate) decay as a condition of life and regardless of where you fall in the spectrum of beliefs, your body will eventually fail. It really sucks, but this is the gig of being human.

In the last year or so, I’ve conversed with several women who lost their girl parts and in fall 2012, I, myself had life-threatening challenges with menopausal bleeding, a huge blood clot in my right leg, and multiple lung embolisms in both lungs. While I didn’t lose my darling uterus (her name is Uti, by the way), because I fought hard to keep her, I did end up having emergency gall bladder surgery. My gall bladder was named Gill, as in “Gill Bladder”. And, I miss him so much. Honestly, I’m still processing everything that happened during that time. But, that’s a story for another post. 🙂

This post is in response to a recent conversation I had with a sister-blogger, Joanne from Food Gurly. (Side note: Be sure to check her out; she’s got a mad-awesome blog that makes my stummy growl every time I go over there). Anyway, Joanne was telling me about some of her health challenges from 2007. I mentioned to her that I know of a great way to help with the loss of a body part (or any bodily condition that’s not to one’s liking) and I promised to share it.atom

So, how can we better cope with the loss of an organ or body part (or deal with sickness)? Two words: energy medicine. What is energy medicine? Chiefly, it is a variety of methods that work with the body’s energy anatomy or the etheric body to release blockages, create greater flow of Chi through the body’s meridians, and improve conditions or in lots of cases, outright heal diseases.

Evidence suggests that when we get to the point where we have lost an organ, it is due to chronic blockage in energy flow in one or more areas of the body. Blockages often result from habitual low-frequency or damaging thoughts and beliefs, less-than-ideal diet, lack of exercise, dehydration, stress, and so on. All bad stuff. And, it happens to the best of us.

Energy medicine encompasses a wide variety of ancient modalities from different cultures; most of it greatly predates Christianity and Western medicine and has been used successfully for countless numbers of people over thousands of years. Energy medicine, also known as “Eastern medicine”, is the umbrella term for working with: chakras, energy meridians, acupuncture, reflexology, Ayurveda, Shiatsu, distant and hands-on healing, Reiki, sacred geometry, color and sound healing, magnetism, homeopathy, intentional healing, and more.

Our bodies are electromagnetic or energy. Everything in the universe is made up of energy or vibrating particles. Every bit of matter, including our bodies, is an active soup of swirling energy that expresses itself as patterns, information, sound, thought, etc., but none of it is actually solid. Everything is comprised of subatomic particles that move and interact and change constantly and which make up the seemingly solid planet and all of its “stuff”.

Energy medicine works on the level of the subtle body, or the energy body to clear blockages. It is a holistic approach, in that it treats the entire physical organism, not just parts of a physical system and it really works to clear the pathways that are vital to greater health and well-being.

I’m in no way qualified to advise you on actual exercises for activating or working with the subtle bodies, but I can give you pointers to some awesome resources and a first-hand account of how it’s worked for me. I’ve been taking a class for a few weeks now on the meridians and WOW! What an incredible experience this has been. Seriously, with some very easy and fast exercises, many of which don’t even involve touching the skin, I’ve had huge shifts in my energy stream. I can feel the changes. I can feel my energy flowing through my body in an even greater capacity and I feel so much more vibrant and alive. While doing the exercises, I get radiating chills up and down my body. I can feel heat building in certain spots and a truly succulent flush of energy through me the entire time; it’s wonderful. And, all with just the use of my two hands, help from some cool chicks in class, and a loving, wonderful body-worker/instructor/healer, Teri Starr.

Feng Shui for the Body

Feng Shui is a fascinating, ancient, and mystical practice for attracting greater health, wealth, and well-being into one’s life by addressing certain aspects of the energy in one’s home and/or place of business. The practice can include altering the furniture placement, colors, accessories, or objects in your environment and even addressing the position of one’s home or building on its site. Feng Shui is a practice tied to Chi, or the universal energy, that’s inside of and flowing through and around everything on the earth plane, including our bodies.

Feng Shui, literally translated, means “wind and water” and refers to the movement of energy through nature’s topography: valleys, mountains, oceans, rivers, rocks, plants, and all planetary forms and expressions, such as our weather, atmosphere, and our planet’s energy meridians. So, reduced to its simplest forms, Feng Shui is about energy, the movement of energy. It stands to reason then that greater, more-balanced energy in our direct environment improves our relationships and feelings and contributes to a more healthful life.

If, for example, a room is dark, stale, and dusty, this carries an energetic frequency, one of a more negative bent. This kind of room weakens the Chi and, depending on the circumstances, can negatively affect your health and relationships. If, on the other hand, a room is sunny, clean, and the layout invites one to enter and relax, this contributes to brighter, more free-flowing thoughts, feelings, and expressions. This is a healthier room and will affect us in more positive ways. In Feng Shui, certain regions in the home, based on a specific geometric grid, directly affect various areas of your life: Health, Career, Relationships, Success, and so on.

Feng Shui fascinates me and although I’m a complete lay-person in the practice, several times per year, I’ll grab my Feng Shui books off of the shelf and leaf through them with an eye toward improving the energy in my home. When I recently pulled down one of my favorite books on the topic, Lillian Too’s coffee table book, it occurred to me that it might be interesting to think about how Feng Shui principles could be directed to one’s body.  A quick Internet search revealed just a few books (with not great reviews, honestly) and even fewer practitioners of this aspect of Feng Shui, not the wealth of information that I honestly expected. So, this post contains my anecdotal ideas for how to apply Feng Shui to the body.

  • fruitDiet – It probably goes without saying, but I’m a gonna say it anyway:  cleaner, higher-quality food contributes to greater health. Eating a balanced diet is vital to good Feng Shui for the body. Foods vibrate. They do. If you are even moderately sensitive, you can look at various foods and feel their level of vibration. For some, fats and heavy foods are a vibratory match, while for others, a diet of leafy greens and vegetables are the right vibration for their body. Your body tells you what foods are a better fit for you. Ask yourself: “How do I feel when I eat this?” What gets my energy moving best? Proteins? Carbohydrates? Ask your body for its opinion. It will tell you. For me, lean proteins and vegetables do the trick. But, this differs for every person. Not everyone can or even should be vegan or vegetarian, but you might do well to monitor the way you feel after eating different foods and eat more foods that match your vibration.
  • exercizeExercise – Again, I’m harping on a similar refrain that we hear from society all of the time, but there is a good reason for it. Moving our bodies is simply one of the best ways to get energy moving inside of us. Feng Shui is all about moving energy and actively creating environments and situations that augment instead of hamper your energy. It’s about creating more opportunities for Chi to flow. Exercise is a great way to do that. I’m all for moving the body because I feel better when I move. Good body Feng Shui has to include exercise and the resultant deep breathing and healthfulness that it engenders.
  • clothes2Clothing -Clothes that restricts blood flow and shoes that throw our spines out of whack are bad Feng Shui. Period. High heels damage our feet, change our gait, and hurt our hip and back alignment. Yes, current fashion rules dictate ridiculously tight, skinny-jeans, high-heels, and corset-tight tops, but this stuff is not good for our bodies and we know it. To have good body Feng Shui means that we do not force our bodies to wear things that are harmful to it or that will throw our system out of alignment. Again, ask yourself how you feel in different kinds of clothes, fabrics, and even colors. Your body will tell you.
  • peopleFriends and Acquaintances – This is a biggie. Feng Shui for the body has to include an analysis of the people with whom we surround ourselves and the kinds of relationships that we maintain. Some good things to ask: Am I happy with the people in my life? Am I maintaining any relationships that drain my energy or flat-out damage my sense of self-worth? Am I secure, loved, and supported in my relationships? People often maintain relationships for less-than-ideal reasons, two of the biggest being fear of hurting others or fear of being alone. But, our closest relationships reflect the quality of our lives, our decisions, and processes in life. Higher-quality people around us means that we’re making healthier decisions and inviting better energy.

Feng Shui for the body makes perfect sense. If we are going to use various methods to address the energy flow in our environment, it stands to reason that it’s a good idea to use the same, or similar, methods to address the energy in our bodies and personal lives. Addressing the areas where we can clean up the flow of energy is a good idea for all aspects of our lives. If we create more harmonious, healthier circumstances for the body, it improves the quality of our expressions; it clears the path for greater abundance, compassion, and peace. We are clearer and brighter and happier. Now, let’s go get our Chi on and do some Feng Shui for our lovely bodies!

Heaping Praises on Yourself

Do you have any idea how amazing you are? No, really! Don’t roll your eyes. You are amazing. Right there, sitting there in your body, reading this post, pulling these words through your mind. No matter what your circumstances or what you have done in your life, good or bad, at your core, you are love and you are amazing. How do I know this? We all are.

Hey, it’s hard to be human; it hurts to be here. We make a great sacrifice to leave our happy, soft nest of warmth on the Other Side and incarnate again. We seriously take one for the human team when we come back here and work out our dramas and karma with each other. Of course, coming back to earth over and over is how we advance as souls, so there are huge benefits to us, but we all know that being human is not for wussies. It’s a pain in the keister to be here. So, my official stance is that YOU ARE AMAZING. Just for being here. So am I. Can you feel it? I hope so. If not, I have an idea to help you address it. Read on.

After you digest this paragraph, stop, close your eyes say to yourself (for at least five minutes): “I am amazing. My body is a miracle. I am amazing. My body is a miracle. I am amazing. My body is a miracle.” Keep saying it. Repeat this to yourself so many times that the words lose their meaning. Then, open your eyes. Do you feel any different? Was this hard for you? Did you resist the exercise? Did your ego step in and tell you to stop being full of yourself? What came up for you?

At first, for me, I felt kind of silly doing this. My mind/ego immediately started poking holes in the practice and telling me that it was stupid, but I kept going. After a few minutes, my head started getting a little bit buzzy. It was so strange. I got kind of floaty and tingly. And, weirdly, it felt like it made me high. I’ll be honest with you, I liked it. I liked how I felt when I came out of the practice. I was actually calmer and more centered. I felt happier.

Heaping praises on yourself is a great daily practice that can totally alter your outlook, instantly elevate your mood, and improve your health. It’s true. People who praise themselves and others are happier and healthier. And, here’s the kicker: you don’t even have to completely believe the praises you heap on yourself at first. Obviously, it works better and faster if you find things that you really like about yourself and repeat those, but even if you do not yet believe your own words, your subconscious will and miraculous things will begin happening for you. It’s like you get a reset. Your energy  becomes softer, more pliable and others all around you register it. It’s seriously fascinating to watch this happen. Anyway, try to do this practice for at least five minutes every day (but, ideally 15) and see what happens. Go on. Heap some praises on yourself. Then, come back here and share your story with all of us.

I Want You

Okay, I’ll admit it: I want you. I want to hold you in my arms, really feel your contours with my hands, with my being. I want to rest beside you and breathe you in and touch you. I want to hear your heart beat, feel your presence emanating inside of me; I want to savor the quickening of my blood when you look at me. I want to stare at you longingly, watch you thinking, tease apart the nuances of your words, decode the mystery of you, and feel how you feel when you are feeling it. I want to know that you sense this, too, that I’m not making it up. It’s real.

I love how your mind feels in my body. Your mind is riveting, fascinating, and so rich. You are incredibly brilliant. In my cells, I want to know what you know, what moves you, what brings you happiness, and what you think. Your spirit, which is hugely evident in your full, gentle eyes, is buoyant, larger than the sun, and shimmering; every time I see you, your spirit crosses the room and enters me with the sweetest little sound and I breathe it, you, into every pore. I pull you into me with force, deeply and fully. Every time this happens, I swoon; my legs buckle. I am filling up with you. I am filling up with the ancientness of you, the forever of you.

When we press together, colors stream from my head, your head, our hands and feet. The colors flush and then contract and careen around the room like bands of dripping wax, coating everything in succulent light. Blue shivers of electricity course the length of me, opening, releasing, shuddering, and shifting. I feel like I’m splitting open, my contents spilling and circling out in waves, touching everything and penetrating the surface of each object. But, then, there are no objects, no separation between anything. There are no edges to me, there is no start or stop to us; we are fused, bound together by light and love. We are simply everything and nothing and everything.

Our electrons combine. You are talking to me. At first, in the heat and energy around us, the words are quiet but then they stand up crisply. I hear them. I hear your soul. You are using my words, reciting things that I have written, which have touched you and have changed you inside. You are whispering words against my neck as we move together. You know that there is no greater gift than to have you uttering my words as we press into each other. You are my mind, my body. I am yours. My soul wraps around you; you receive it. Your soul envelopes me; I receive it, as we turn and spin together and weave the colorful parts of each other open. The two of us exposed, exultant, and finally, home.

I want you to know that the mind has no true place in this place. Despite having to use mind to formulate these sentences, this is from the soul of the body, the soul of the soul, and this is how it feels to invite love, really invite another into my being and let them have their way with me.

This is total vulnerability and tenderness, staggering, breathless love, and the deepest spiritual connection; it’s beyond my mind’s abilities to truly capture. But, you get this. I don’t have to fill the space with more than this, more words. It is enough for me to know that these feelings and sensations live inside of you as they do me. We feel this together.

When we love another, when we want another, we are really seeking a deep and lasting connection with our Source; we are seeking the boundless love of the universe that is available to us at any time; it’s the love that we remember from the Other Side. This is why loving another feels so good, because when we adore someone, we are feeling our own alignment with Source energy; we are tasting our own endless capacity for affection and tenderness and we know that this is our soul’s true purpose. The above is how it feels for me. What about you?

Love Note

You are beautiful. I’ll say it again. You. Are. So. Beautiful. I’ll tell you this every day, as many times as possible, as many times as it takes until you believe me. When I look at you, I swoon. I fall into your eyes; I swim in the center of your being. I invite you into my being. When I think of you and see your face in my mind’s eye, remember the things you have said to me, the times we have laughed together, my heart  blossoms and turns toward you, wherever you are, and sighs with a smile of satisfaction. Everything is new, fresh, and astonishing. Everything is opening, layering, and building. Can you feel it? It’s there.

In my mind, I hold the precision of your words, their heady, intoxicating rhythm, their melody. I see you. I see the real you. The soul who came here full of hope and knowledge of its divine connection, its purpose. I see the soul in you who understands its important contribution to other people and this earth plane. You are perfect. Right now. Sitting there. Reading this. Sensing the connection. Returning to yourself, your true self. You are complete. Total. Whole. I can see your soul shimmering with love and I can see your body following suit. Your body houses an immense light, a truly massive energy, and it does such a good job. Can you feel this? It’s real.

I want you to know that I’ll always revel in the glory of you, your brilliant mind, staggering intelligence, your kind heart. I’ll tell you often about the beauty in you and your life, the deliciousness of your body, the depth of your being, which is like the vastness of space and holds all answers. I’ll remind you of your wonderful presence, your soul’s steadfast reluctance to be anything other than love, perfect love. I will never waiver in this. I will show you what you mean to me every day, dear, beautiful human and friend. And, I will always be here for you, sweetly reminding you of your birthright, your grandeur, your importance. I will stay, hold the line, hold the truth, give it to you whenever you need it. Come to me. I am yours.
